Did Jesus walk in Gloucestershire?

Did Jesus walk in Gloucestershire?

Archaeologist Dennis Price strongly believes that Jesus came to live in England and event spent some time right here in Gloucestershire. Listen to him being interviewed here.

"I think what he was doing here was working, as the legend suggests, and taking sanctuary in this country from the Roman threat in his homeland."
Dennis PriceAccording to Dennis Price, Jesus Christ spent most of his teenage years in England, even reaching Gloucestershire, and didn't return to the Middle East for almost twenty years.

Dennis, an archaeologist, has written a book called 'The Missing Years of Jesus: The Greatest Story Never Told' in which he shares his theories.

"I think there's more than a passing chance that he visited Gloucestershire, especially the area around Clearwell", says Dennis speaking to Richard Atkins, presenter of the Sunday Breakfast show on BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"Clearwell had mines that were being worked in the late Iron Age which is precisely the time when legends place him here. I don't doubt it for a moment."

Theory
So what is Dennis' theory? He explains...

"From what I can see, Jesus effectively goes missing at the age of twelve and reappears at the age of thirty and he's unrecognisable to those who should have known him best.

"As for the length of time, if he'd left his homeland in his early twenties, there wouldn't have been such a difference in his appearance.

"People would have recognised someone who'd only been away for ten years or so, so my guess is that he was here for as long as 18 years."

Evidence
...and his reason for travelling to England?

"I think what he was doing here was working, as the legend suggests, and taking sanctuary in this country from the Roman threat in his homeland.

"As he reappeared at the age of 30 with his ministry - which he clearly hadn't formulated by the age of 12 - then it simply seems to me that he spent a lot of his time here planning what he was going to present to the world when he went back home."

Richard asked Dennis if there was any evidence to Jesus' adolescent years being spent in the South West, to which he finished...

"I strongly suspect that if anyone starts digging very carefully around certain areas, in Glastonbury and possibly in Cornwall, even in Wiltshire, that some might come to light. I don't think it's unthinkable by any means."

When you consider that there are more than 100 recognized nations in the world today, the mathematical odds against all of these identification marks being fulfilled by just one small group of nations, all of the same blood, is billions to one. But since it has happened, that the marks of Israel have been fulfilled by the Anglo Saxon and kindred people, do you think it mere accident or coincidence? If we are not Israel, then what has happened to all of God's prophecies? It certainly is not the Jews or anybody else that even comes close to matching the biblical descriptions. It is the White race alone that fits every piece of the puzzle.

Psa 97:1 The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.
Psa 97:2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.
Psa 97:3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.
Psa 97:4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.
Psa 97:5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
Psa 97:6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
Psa 97:7 Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.
Psa 97:8 Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.
Psa 97:9 For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.
Psa 97:10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
Psa 97:11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Psa 97:12 Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

  1. It's such a pleasant thought, isn't it, to consider that He might have walked Britain's green hills?

While this is not a doctrine of the faith, such musings remind me of how I once labored in vain to feel warm towards the swarthy, foreign Jews who were allegedly the blood-kin of the One Who saved me by His grace. But realizing with full assurance that He is one of us, an Adamic man...well, the comfort is immeasurable.

Thank you for posting this, my sister.

  3. Oh, yes, Joy, I definitely believe that He is our Kinsman Redeemer by the blood. As I said in my comment, I realize with full assurance that He is one of us, etc. I didn't mean to leave the impression that I don't hold to this as an important doctrine.

What I meant was that I'm not 100% sure that He came to the British Isles. I certainly like to think He did, mind you! And I'm still studying this topic. I had skimmed Mr. Capt's work some time back, but thanks to your recommendation, I will give it a much closer reading now. Thank you for the link. And as always, thank you for your service to our people.

  7. I understand about re-reading some books, we can always use a refresher dose. I'm going to look and see if the whole book is online somewhere.

My granny, boy do I miss her. I loved the smell of her and her soft wrinkly skin. How she always wanted to hold my hand and stroke it.
Yep looking real forward to seeing her again. It will be a great time Jeff!
